The Davies Craig Hydra-Cool^® 23 Plate Transmission Oil Cooler & 8" Thermatic® Fan Combo is a complete heavy-duty transmission cooling solution designed to keep automatic transmission fluid (ATF) operating at its optimum temperature, even when natural airflow is limited. Combining the premium Hydra-Cool® 23 Plate Plate & Fin Oil Cooler with a high-performance 8" Thermatic® Electric Fan, this kit delivers maximum cooling performance during towing, off-road driving, heavy traffic, motorsport and sustained high-speed driving.

Featuring advanced plate & fin technology, the Hydra-Cool® oil cooler provides superior heat transfer while requiring up to 33% less mounting space than comparable tube & fin coolers. The included 12V Thermatic® Electric Fan ensures consistent airflow through the cooler core, making it ideal for vehicles where airflow is restricted or operating conditions are particularly demanding. Every Hydra-Cool® cooler is manufactured from lightweight aluminium and 100% pressure tested to 150 psi for maximum durability and reliability.

Why Install a Hydra-Cool^® Fan Combo?

Automatic transmissions generate significant heat during towing, slow-speed off-road driving, heavy traffic and high-performance use. In these situations, airflow through a conventional oil cooler can be limited, reducing cooling efficiency.

The Davies Craig Hydra-Cool® 23 Plate & 8" Thermatic® Fan Combo ensures constant airflow through the oil cooler regardless of vehicle speed, maintaining optimum transmission temperatures even under the harshest operating conditions. This complete cooling package helps extend transmission life, improve shift performance and reduce the risk of costly transmission failures. For automatic fan operation, Davies Craig recommends pairing this kit with the Digital Thermatic® Fan Switch (Part No. 0444/0480 GEN II).

How to Select the Correct Transmission Oil Cooler

All Davies Craig transmission oil coolers are universal fit, making it easy to choose the right cooler based on the available mounting space rather than your vehicle's make or model.

Step 1 – Determine the Correct Cooler for Your Application

Use the Transmission & Engine Oil Cooler Product Selection Guide (below) to identify the recommended transmission oil cooler for your application. The guide considers factors such as:

• Vehicle type
• Transmission type
• Intended use and operating conditions

This will recommend the appropriate transmission oil cooler size for your application.

Step 2 – Is a Thermatic^® Fan Beneficial?

Some applications benefit from the addition of a Thermatic^® Electric Fan to provide consistent airflow through the oil cooler when natural airflow is limited.

A fan is recommended for applications including:

• Towing
• Motorsport or performance driving
• Off-road vehicles
• Remote-mounted oil coolers
• Low-speed or stop-start operation

Step 3 – Measure the Available Space

Most transmission oil coolers are mounted in front of the radiator or air conditioning condenser to maximise airflow.

Measure the available installation area and record the following dimensions:

• Width
• Height
• Available Clearance (Depth)

Step 4 – Choose the Largest Cooler That Fits

As a general rule, the largest transmission oil cooler that comfortably fits within the available space will provide the best cooling performance. A larger cooler offers greater heat dissipation, helping to maintain lower automatic transmission fluid (ATF) temperatures, particularly when towing, carrying heavy loads, driving off-road, or operating in hot conditions.
